Mitch Leichter Administrator/Partner

Mitch started his healthcare career as a Recreation Therapist back in 1996 and was also trained in aromatherapy and holistic treatments. He obtained his Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) Administrators license in 2000 and since 2010 has been the Administrator/Partner Owner at Alexander Gardens.

Mitch is the past recipient of the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) award for his Sensory Integration Program, which he brings to Alexander Gardens to the delight of our residents.

In his spare time Mitch enjoys spending time with friends and family, enjoying the beach, and adding a new awesome design to his Hawaiian shirt collection.

Joseph Newlan, LVN Associate Executive Director

Joseph has over 25 years of experience as a nurse. He is certified in Advanced Care Planning Facilitation, phlebotomy, and RCFE Administration.  Joseph’s nursing career encompasses in many fields ranging from Sub-Acute Care, Hospice, Home Health, Adult Day Care, Dementia, and Assisted Living.
He is a 5th generation Santa Barbara native and enjoys serving seniors in our community. He also serves as Associate Executive Director at Villa Alamar Memory Care.

His focus is working closely with the staff to provide consistent, quality care in a service-oriented fashion. “We treat the residents and their family as one unit,” says Joseph.  “The emotional health and care of our family members is as important as the care we give our residents.”


Mary Brook Associate Executive Director

Mary has been guiding seniors and their families through the aging process since 2006. After graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, her passion for senior care started with teaching health and wellness classes to seniors.

She has in-depth perspective about the aging process and the different life options available to seniors because of her experience as a Marketing Director, Resident Care Director, and Associate Executive Director in several communities throughout the United States. Mary currently holds an RCFE Administrator’s certification and a Yoga certificate. Improving the quality of senior’s lives through a safe and enriching environment is important to her.

When she is not working at Alexander Gardens, Mary enjoys hiking with her dog Mia or playing soccer with her husband and grandkids. She looks forward to helping you and your loved ones make quality lifestyle choices as you age.

Luciana Mitzkun Weston Community Services Director

Luciana is a licensed RCFE Administrator and memory care specialist, with over 25 years of experience in assisting families and patients affected with dementia, such as in Alzheimer’s disease. Formerly a Care Consultant for the Alzheimer’s Association, Luciana brings extensive knowledge in care planning and working in collaboration with diverse supportive organizations and community leaders. She is also a certified Mediator and Support Group Facilitator, providing additional direct support to our families.

Luciana is the author of two popular books on memory care, Ahead of Dementia and Ahead of Memory Loss, resources that bring valuable information and strategies to patients and caregivers affected with memory-related conditions. Her work is also available in Spanish, Un Paso Adelante de la Demencia.

When she is not assisting patients and their families or writing, Luciana likes to travel, swim, snorkel, and dance to country music with her husband, The Roy.

 

Dalia Gutierrez Business Office Manager

Dalia initially joined the Alexander Garden team as a Medication Technician in 2011, after completing the CNA/HHA program at Santa Barbara City College. Her extreme dedication to residents and their families did not go unnoticed, and Dalia continued to grow in her responsibilities becoming our Assisted Living Coordinator. After completing her RCFE Administrator’s training, she was promoted to her current position where her attention to every detail in the operation of the home is greatly appreciated.

She considers caring for our residents and their families to be a great honor. She often reminds our staff of how much she adores the residents and loves to see them smile. She inspires us all!

When not at work, Dalia enjoys spending quality time outdoors with her 2 children and dancing to Latin rhythms (she is an expert on Cumbia).

 

 

 

Lala Ruiz Administrative Assistant

Lala is passionate about the Life Enrichment lifestyle with the residents and she is an important part of the daily activity program. Her creative flare is seen throughout the community with flyers and arts and crafts. You can see her planning a special event or a day trip. She currently is taking college classes at Ventura Community College with an emphasis in Humanities and working fulltime at Alexander Gardens.
In her free time she loves to walk along the beach, learn new languages and spend time with her family and friends.

Jackie Barron Assisted Living Coordinator

Jackie’s commitment to the residents, families, and staff is felt throughout the Alexander Gardens assisted living community. She began her work here as a Medication Technician in 2016 and after demonstrating hard work and dedication, she was promoted to Assisted Living Coordinator. Her passion for her work creates a connection to the residents and families. Meeting the needs of the residents, giving them peace and contentment brings joy to her day.
Jackie is a Medical Assistant who is expanding her education in the nursing field.

When not at work she loves spending time with her family and exploring new opportunities and events.
